    3.5-4 stars. Came here with a groupon. Not crowded at all on a Wednesday night (only 2 other small parties there). Great service. Bread was tasty. Had the spaghetti and meatballs and the fettuccini alredo. Portions are a good size. The pasta is heavy. Afterwards walked around the empty mall to work off some of the calories

    I had the chix parm which was huge. Even though it was really flat, it was not dry. The pasta and sauce that accompanied it were also good. Service was excellent. The nice waiter was friendly and courteous.

    Food was great but if you ever go there ask for Catharina, she was amazing!!!! She Helped us with the menu... Made sure everything was doing well all the time,... Honestly best service ever! Definitely recommend.

    This 5 star rating is strictly for the food, as we ordered the food for pick-up. Had the Ortolana salad (roasted veggies). Penne Arriabata, and Margherita Pizza -- and they were all so delicious. For what it's worth, the dinner was so satisfying that - 1) I am posting this review 2 days later; and 2) I've never been moved to post a comment for an Italian restaurant before (and we've been to a few, pretty much all of them "good", but Luna Rossa's had that something extra to make it memorable tastebud wise!).

    Never had a more obnoxious pushy waiter in my life! I dine out frequently and have never encountered a waiter this rude. (Gabriel) If this is the kind of staff they employ I'm surprised they're still in business.

    Perched on the second floor of a rather quaint and quite semi-shopping mall (although I do love the promenade) is an Italian restaurant of a quality one would not expect to find...in a shopping mall. The ambiance is one of simplistic comfort with shades of yellow, orange and tan adorning the walls. The venue is large, but not loud, with plenty of corners to hide away in for those more 'intimate' dinners. The menu looks authentic enough, with traditional Italian flare with plenty of pasta and sauces, but also has quite a bit of sea food thrown into the mix. Ma chouchou really enjoyed her lobster ravioli ("it was a 10/10 and the best I've had" - her exact words), while the pizza I enjoyed was made exactly to order and tasted superb. I have yet to sample the carne but fully intend to do so on my next visit. We went rather late after watching Jack Ryan at the adjacent theater, so I'm willing to guess the service is usually much faster and more personal, but I will note that was my only displeasure during this otherwise fully satisfactory visit. I would say this is PV's version of La Piazza at the Grove, albeit less fancy. I am happy to recommend Luna Rossa and look forward to my next visit. Definitly worth considering for a dinner/movie date in PV (not a first date, but I'm assuming you wouldn't do dinner and a movie on a first date in the first place...).

    Just made reservations here for our wedding rehearsal dinner.... excite! Gabriel the Manager, was a great help and was very flexible with our wants and needs. Prices seem reasonable and there is a good sized banquet room for our use. Will report back shortly once we have dinner and update my review!

    We, a party of 4, had reservations ... we were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. Here's the good, mediocre, and ugly: 1) Service - good. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about both the food and wine. Since all were not drinking, my wife and I followed the waiter's recommendation and had glasses of a reserve chianti which was good. He was genuine, seemed to really care about us and were it not for what follows we would return. 2) Food - mediocre. I thought it was too "sauced." My salad was "just so-so." Nothing to "leave home for." The spaghetti carbonara was drowned in cream and way too much cheese. Not done in the Italian style in Italy. I discussed it with our waiter. He agreed but said it was done this way because that's "what Americans like." 3) Atmosphere - ugly. The sound reverberates off the walls and windows like a boomerang. To "add injury to insult" a poor accordion player roams around and lingers adding to the din. If you're not interested in conversation and prefer decibels = to a rock concert, you'll love this place. In sum ... it was not what I'd call a dining experience.

    I went here with my parents for the first time yesterday for dinner. It was crowded which we thought was a good sign. There was actually a 30 minute wait which is surprising for restaurants on the hill. The good: The front desk hostess was very friendly and hard working. In fact the wait staff were all quite friendly and attentive even on such a crowded night. The bad: The place is very noisy, and the annoying roaming accordion player guy does not help. In fact he has this evil stare in his eye which is quite scary. Most importantly, the food we ordered was pretty bad. My dad ordered the Luna Rossa pizza which was essentially a roasted vegetable pizza. The tomato sauce was bland, and the vegetables tasted rotten! My mom ordered grilled sole which came with a side of potatoes. The fish had a plastic like texture and the sauce was way too lemony. I thought her potatoes had a funny aftertaste too. Finally I ordered the margherita pizza. (I thought they really couldn't mess that up.) Unfortunately, like my dad's pizza, the tomato sauce was watery and was sliding off the crust and had no flavor. The crust itself was also very bland. We ordered dessert to give this place a chance, and luckily that was ok. We had a Spumoni Bamba which is basically spumoni ice cream in a chocolate shell. We were really hoping this place would at least be decent, but unfortunately a scary accordion player, rotten vegetables, and bland tomato sauce has really turned us off :(

    Went here last night for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised! We had a large party but the wait staff was still very attentive to us (I wish I could remember the name of our server, she was so sweet!). We started off the the Crostini della Tradizione, which was nothing short of amazing. Seriously, I could eat this all day long. Toasted bread (which was so good....really hope they make it on-site!), prosciutto, butter, sage, mozzarella?! It's pretty much to die for. I wish they gave you more than three pieces though (especially since it is $12). For dinner we shared the Napoletana pizza, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and anchovies (we were feeling adventurous). Loved it! It was the perfect size for two people to share. And how could I go to an Italian restaurant and not order tiramisu? I couldn't. I ordered that sucker and it was soooo worth it. Delicious. I even ordered a cannoli to go for my preggo best friend (we're from NY and have been on an endless search to find any cannolis out here, let alone good ones). She loved it! I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner there and can't wait to go back and try more! There is only one little teeny tiny thing. On that particular night we did bring our baby and I did have to change her at one point and was surprised there wasn't a changing table in the ladies room. Not a big deal, I'm resourceful, I was able to change her in the bathroom anyway, but a changing table would be helpful. However, I'm probably not going to be bringing the baby every time I go, it's more of a date night place I feel. Just a suggestion!

    Another Italian restaurant on the hill? And the third within walking distance counting Frascati also located in the Palos Verdes Promenade Mall and Mama Terano just down the street on Deep Valley Drive. And not counting our poor Giorgio's over on Silver Spur which has been closed due to a fire for about three centuries and counting (actually about two years). So do we need another Italian joint? Eh, why the heck not. We like Frascati but I haven't been for awhile now aside from ordering some takeout a few months back. And we also got some takeout from Mama Terano awhile back too. Also decent. But we really were looking for something that could fill the void left in our hearts (and stomachs) after we've been going through awful 2-year long Giorgio's withdrawals. And we had planned last night to hit a newly found runner up in J. Trani's in San Pedro but our friends and my wife and I decided we'd give Luna Rossa a shot because it's closer and we just received an email for 40% off the entire bill to be used by Halloween...pretty much a no brainer there. Luna Rossa is the fourth incarnation of this space in the mall as far as I can count (after another Italian joint and two steakhouses, all names I've forgotten except for Peninsula Grill which we enjoyed) and they've done well with the space, taking out some heavy dark booths, adding more 4-tops and a few (but less than previous) white booths. I much prefer the light airy room as opposed to what was there before...black booths, ruby red carpet...I just never liked the decor previously and while the ceilings are way too high to make the place quaint and cozy, it's definitely a step in the right direction. Walking through the door felt familiar except for some celebrity photos that line the wall. I think these pics are probably from celebs visiting their Vegas location as fortunately, celebs haven't discovered PV and wouldn't be caught dead in our Promenade. Still, the pics are a little strange but I understand they might be trying to do it up similar to some famous Hollywood or L.A. eatereis a la the cartoons at the Palm and such. We were told that this place has been open for 6 days and understandably, they're still working some stuff out. Like bread on the table, refilling water (I'm always thirsty and my glass was empty for most of the two hour meal...and yeah, I did ask to be refilled a couple of times), offering a kids menu and being accomodating to substitutions on the menu ESPECIALLY when you have someone in your party with SEVERE dietary issues. So here's what we ordered: Antipasto All 'Italiana for $10 (Salami, Mortadella, Prosciutto, Parmesan, Mozzarella, Artichokes, Olives, Roasted Bell Peppter) D: Costata di Manzo all Griglia for $28 (Grilled Bone-in Ribeye, served with potato and mixed sauteed vegetables) A: Rigatoni ai Funghi for $14 (Tube pasta with mushroom and shallots in a pink vodka sauce) J: Tagliata di Bue for $24 (Grilled New York Steak sliced in a red wine, garlic and rosemary sauce served on a bed of green salad and potatoes) L: Fettucine Alfredo for $12(Egg fettucicine with Alfredo Sauce). L had to order this because of the 'no substitutions' thing mentioned above... Okay, the antipasto lacked the bell peppers and the mozzarella but it was fine...presentation might have been a little better but it was tasty enough. I ordered my 'Costata' rare and it was overcooked but still very tasty. I'd say it was cooked medium so they definitely need to work that out. I'm not the type to send back a steak unless it's just downright awful and this was definitely not awful. Again, it had good flavor and I did enjoy it. I had asked for a substitution of pasta in lieu of potatoes and earlier in ordering had learned that the chef wouldn't make substitutions. I was pleasantly surprised when there was some spaghetti with tomato sauce on my plate but no vegetables. That's okay and the pasta was tasty but the subsitutions thing really irked us. The place just opened; they should be accomodating, especially for folks on the hill that aren't as easy going as us. My wife's rigatoni was INSANE. It was so incredibly good. She couldn't finish it (fortunately) because it was a good sized portion so after my huge steak and spaghetti, I couldn't resist devouring that sucker. It was that good. Wow. I think J enjoyed his steak...forgive me but we had a bit of wine that was recommended by our waiter so my memory isn't so clear on his dish....the recommendations were great, by the way. L enjoyed her fettucine alfredo. Prices of dishes were decent. Perhaps a soup or salad included in the steaks would be nice like they did at Giorgio's, for dishes priced in the $20s but prices were comparable to other joints. And we got comp'd dessert/limoncello. So, overall, we enoyed Luna Rossa...I'd be more inclined to give it a 3 1/2 star rating this early on and we'll go again to check in on 'em.

    I had the BEST experience at here and it's all to do with our server, Patrick. He was not only a delight to talk to (and actually engaged in conversation instead of treating us like we were just dollar signs. I know, I know, crazy concept.) but he recommended the caprese that he then added pesto sauce on top. It was amazing! Every bite is like the first. This is by far the best restaurant I've ever been to. I am a regular now because of him. I now bring everyone I know to come here and always ask for Patrick to ensure the best possible experience.

    Went here for dinner with my wife and her parents. We sat outside on their patio, which was very nice. The food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable. We even got some complimentary limoncello with our desserts! We will definitely be back soon. To the reviewer below who called the owner a name because he didn't let her husband change her baby's diaper on one of the dining room booths: Are you serious? That's disgusting.

    Check in offer 10% off when you check in. Late night after the movies so we ate light. Fresh bread was light & airy served w EVOO & Balsamic. I had the beef carpaccio and it was delicious however way too much salty Parmesan on top that I shared the extra with my honey . He had the salmon salad entree and ate every morsel including all of my extra Parmesan . I will come back to try some pizza as we saw many people having late night pizza & the yelp photos look incredible

    UGH......the food was below par to begin with. We had a bland soggy pizza the only thing going for it was that it was hot. The service was worse than the food! We had an older host who could NOT have been more annoyed to seat my husband and 2 kids so we were already turned off. Much to our dismay he ended up being our waiter as well....double ugh. Service was poor and so was the food. Do not waste your time and money on this place.

    This is my fav restaurant. I always end up with the same waiter and I just love him! He knows my order and always adds something extra. The food is fantastic. I get the penne with bolognese and add mushrooms and basil. Their bruschetta is fantastic. The salad is great. All the food is great. I can't wait to go again. :)

    This place was so good. I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much- I was just in the mood for some Italian food and they have the awesome offer when you check if with Yelp. So I decided to give it a try. We had just pep pizza and lausanga and some wine. I will automatically like anyrestaurant that pours me a large glass of wine (which they did) so they already had me at that, and then i will love any restruant that brings out deslious bread with olive oil+ baslmic and then olive spread. The food was good. My lasgana was good, the pizza was great. I will definitely go back for wine and pizza :)

    Our parents frequently visit this spot because it's close to their home. Ambiance is nice, but most people were casually dressed. Some items were good, others were a miss. Prices weren't that much more than chain restaurants. We started off with a cold plate with various cured meats and olives, which was nice and slightly different from the norm. We each ordered one thing from the menu, then waited a long time for the food to come out. Dad got the cioppino (seafood stew), which he enjoyed. We each had a bite and it seemed to be good with a decent mix of shellfish and fish. Mom got a ravioli stuffed with peas in a creamy sauce. She thought it was supposed to be pesto, but it seemed like a mushroom sauce. Perhaps they got her order wrong? The egg pasta wrapper was extremely tender and the filling was mild, but worked with the sauce. A very comforting dish. DH's dish was salmon with vegetables. Everyone who tried it said it was "too lemony". I thought it tasted a little fishy. Also, the fish was cooked a bit too much for DH's liking. DH says, "Too much lemon, little overcooked." Finally, I got the casertana pizza, which was sadly cold and soggy in the middle. It was plated on a regular plate. They could have used a metal plate or something else to keep it warm and crisp. There was barely any sauce on it. The buffalo mozzarella was fine, the basil was okay. The crust didn't have much flavor. You Yelpers steered me wrong! Ugh. We had some really good pizza the following day and thinking back to this pizza just made me sad. Fortunately, dessert was pretty good. DH had the tiramisu, which tasted as expected, creamy, light, with a touch of cocoa powder. Mom and I split a "bomba", which was a sphere of ice cream dipped in a dark chocolate shell. The ice cream was chocolate, pistachio, and strawberry. The chocolate was slightly bitter and delicious. A great way to end the meal. Service was pretty good. We used a Yelp check-in offer and got 20% off the tab, which is super nice. I'd say overall, it's "A-OK", as long as you don't order the pizza.

    Good location for a before or after show dinner at Regal or The Norris. The fried calamari was plenty for two or three people and was excellent. The pepperoni pizza was also very good, thin crust and lots of meat and cheese. Service was cheerful and abundant. The hot bread is excellent as well. This restaurant also takes Groupons so check out what's online before you go.

    The best meal I've had in a long time!!! Me and my beautiful girlfriend shared the caprese and the spaghetti a la langosta (lobster tails over spaghetti with vodka pink sauce) and it was freaking incredible!! So good, I wanted each bite to last forever. Our server Patrick is the friggin man, very knowledgeable and took care of us like family. I will definitely be coming back and soon!!

    My parents love this place, so we joined them for dinner on Father's Day. They have their favorite waiter who of course waited on us excellently. I was impressed with how big the restaurant was because you cannot sense this from the outside of the mall. Very nice clean and upscale interior (no straw-wrapped chianti bottles). Started with soft and warm bread then headed into the good stuff. We had the following items: Starters: Mista Salad Minestrone soup - both good Main Course: Rigatoni with Mushrooms (added Shrimp to it) so yummy, and a large serving. Rigatoni Bolognese - excellent Lasagna Classica - nothing was left on the plate No dessert - we were too full. Overall this is was good restaurant I would visit often if I lived closer. Caio!

    If you plan on going here YOU MUST READ THIS! It's been at least 5 years since my last yelp because of . . . We'll ya know life. 5 years and 3 kids later this my first reason to write a review all in thanks to my experience at Luna Rossa in PV. Where do we start? Hummmmm, we arrive and notice the young gal at the receptionist bar/table looks like she's been pulled in from off the street-literally!!! She must be someone's daughter-like maybe the guy who's flyin' around the restaurant in his jeans and button up shirt bringing everyone's food. I first thought he was a fellow patron going from table to table for some odd reason. Guess not since I later saw him at everyone else's table with a pretty strong Italian accent. This was just the first impression. . .who said that really counted right? Once we were seated we were given two menus, one to my wife with food and their prices and the other with clear blank plastic pages that maybe at one time actually held a menu. Wow all of this in less then 3 minutes. Great way to start dinner! When I got up to retrieve an actual menu I returned and looked through if to decide what I wanted. Once my wife and I decided what we wanted we waited and caught the eye of a waitress. She came and asked "has anyone helped you yet?". . . I don't know who was more annoyed us or her because now she was stuck with having to take our order. Food was brought out and by this time we were hoping nobody spat in our food-and yes we had this conversation at the table. The food was all around very good, until my wife noticed there was a bone inside the dipping sauce for the bread. That totally grossed her out, me however just hungry. . .kept eating. As she was eating I heard a small crunch from my wife's side of the table-her face didn't look happy-she bit into an unknown object, very hard and almost cracked her tooth. If it wasn't for the chef and the 20% off yelp coupon I would be waiting another 5 years to write a review:) Buyer Beware!!!

    Here's another place I don't want the general public finding out about because it has just the right amount of people there already for my own selfish purposes. I love this place. You can get decent food and drinks, great service right across from a theater that you can get in to see a movie on opening weekend without too much hassle! Perfect. But forget I said this. We don't want either place getting to crowded. It's all about a stress free evening.

    As we had never been there before, my husband and I made our reservation in person about a week in advance. I was in the mood for some good lobster and we made sure the hostess knew that. We asked her if lobster was always available and she was a bit blase but assured us that it was since it is on their menue. On Sunday, June 28th, when our party of four ordered our meals I was informed by our server that they were out of lobster. What??? He just sort of shrugged it off, of course, he lacked much personality anyway. Another server, new there from Las Vegas had loads of personality. Had he been our server, I know they would have rated another star. But...he wasn't and my birthday dinner was pretty disappointing. We found most of our meals to be of average quality and lacking flair. My friend wanted a dry cappuccino and had to argue with our server about how she wanted it. He made an issue about her request not being an Italian coffee and he'd have to get someone else to make it. He did just that and it turned out perfectly. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

    Fabulous service. Bread was nice and hot and the bruschetta was the best I've ever had. Main courses were linguine and clams which my husband loved. My mom had the risotto with mushrooms also very good. The penne arrabbiata. Very spicy and delicious. Very nice evening! Oh our waiter Augusto was phenomenal! As were the others helping him out!

    Went here on the way to watch a movie. The area is very nice with lots of stores to stop by. The server was friendly and the ambience was nice. Good to take friends or a date if you are in the area wanting some good food.

    We arrived with a party of 6 we were seated quickly and then forgotten. We were then assigned a new waiter a service picked up a little. This place is noisy sounds bounce off the hard walls and it's hard to hold a conversation. The food is mediocre at best, my Bruschetta was not very good the bread was toasted to a rock hard consistency. The pasta in vodka sauce was OK not great or memorable. My mothers clams were awful and they served it with 4 of the clams unopened which means they were dead when cooked, a real mistake. Not a good experience.

    Meh, was not impressed at all. This place is located on the 2nd floor of the mall, off the escalator on the way to the movie theatre. Bruschetta: everyone was raving about it and I thought it was just okay. I mean, how do you mess up toasted baguettes and diced tomatoes? The baguettes were nicely toasted, but I definitely thought the whole dish was overhyped Spaghetti with clams: the garlic white wine sauce was good, spaghetti was cooked well but drenched in oil; generous on the clams (~12-13), but they were definitely overcooked Friend got the rigatoni with classic meat sauce, and thought it was blend. I had a taste of the rigatoni and they were overcooked. One upside was that the service was good. Our waiter was very polite and checked up on us frequently.

    This is a good spot to go to after the movies, I have been here twice and haven't been disappointed. We have had the eggplant salad, margherita pizza, and artichoke pizza. The pizzas are thin crust and oh so good! My favorite is the salad, the eggplant. dressing and touch of goat cheese is perfect and large enough for my friend and I. Our server, Gabe was very sweet and attentive.

    Went in to have lunch before my movie . The place was a little busy ..which was not a problem. The problem was that I felt totally ignored . I walked in and waited 5mins to be seated . Then once I was finally .. It seemed I was over looked once again. Mind u I was sitting in the middle of this place .. So I walked out . Not sure If they were short on servers or what .. But that was unacceptable . Is it too much to ask for good service?

    I think that this restaurant location is cursed. Ever sense the ill fated Il Posto (which was wonderful) withered on the vine within this space, nothing decent has come in to replace it. The ghost of Il Posto won't allow it. Well, we came to try "the Hill's" newest Italian restaurant. Very disappointing. First of all, they have a huge, brightly lit sign facing the concourse of the mall nearest the parking lot. So, you trek up the stairs on a freezing evening to find a sign AT THE TOP of the stairs that you cannot enter this way. Seriously? Ok, down the stairs and around the building to the "main" entrance with the tiny sign. Now, you come in, and there is NO ONE at the hostess station. Fortunately, a waitress eventually notices that 4 hungry people are standing there and probably waiting for a table. Wow...c'mon people. So, after they "set" a table for us, we are seated by Giorgio (i.e., Giorgio from Giorgio's restaurant, which has been closed since the destructive fire). Poor guy...he was not real excited to talk about that issue. The server promptly came to the table to offer us water and was very friendly. We perused the extensive menu which, while long, is underwhelming. Do you remember the Italian cuisine revolution of the early 1990s? Do you remember how excited you were to see pink sauce, in addition to the classic bolognese, and "light cream sauce", in addition to the heavy alfredo? Except now, you've been to Il Fornaio and all the other "gourmet" Italian restaurants and you expect more when you are ordering a $15 plate of pasta? Well, don't come to Luna Rossa. It is like stepping back to a 1991 menu with 2012 prices. First, we had ordered a glass of the Montepulciano (there is an extensive wine by the glass list). Oy. You could smell the wine when it was put down. It had turned. Fortunately, we told the waiter and asked for the Barbera instead. This was a much better glass of wine. The bread basket was tasty - fresh, warm, crusty bread and breadsticks in little packages (although one was empty - thanks for putting trash in the bread basket). There were several salads ordered at the table. It should advertise that these HUGE salads are really for two. We had the caesar, which is a typical chopped romaine tossed in caesar dressing with parmesan and croutons. Tasty enough, but boring. We also had the mixed greens with roasted vegetables and goat cheese in a balsamic vinaigrette. Also tasty but they weren't really reaching for this one. Well, so far so (mostly) good, let's see what comes next. Carbonara - requested angel hair and asked for extra saucy. Holy moses...this was SOOOO dry. The carbonara had a decent flavor but there was no creaminess whatsoever. It was also grossly underseasoned, so it was boring. Plus, you needed water because it was absolutely soaking every bit of moisture from your mouth. Penne in a Light Cream Sauce with Chicken, Broccoli, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Shallots. This was very saucy, but there was way too much pasta (i.e., you're digging for the good stuff) and the pasta was barilla and it was a bit soft (i.e., not al dente). The chicken in this dish was very dry - it had all the moisture cooked out of it. There was also no seasoning in this dish. Prosciutto Pizza with Mushrooms - I asked for basil on top of the pizza. There was no basil. Strike 1. The prosciutto was not cut up before it was put on the pizza. After being cooked, event the pizza slicer could not get it, so you would basically drag huge mouthfulls of ham off the pizza and then eat cheese bread, which was not crisp in the middle. Strike 2. There was no seasoning in the sauce or the bread or anywhere. This was boring. Strike 3. Salmon with Balsamic Reduction - fortunately, we ordered this rare, because it came medium. The balsamic reduction was the highlight of the dish, because the salmon was not of the best quality and did not have the best flavor. This was served with mixed vegetables that had absolutely NO seasoning. BORING!!! Somone ordered a chocolate mousse...I couldn't even bring myself to take a bite, because it was so boring. We ate our dinners, because they are edible, but it is dull and overpriced. The servers are nice, but the ambience is the same as the last incarnation of this restaurant. Don't waste your time here. Frascati is better in this mall.

    Good bet if you are going to the movies. Entrees came out fast and hot! Give yourself at least an hour if you don't want to be rushed. Had the shrimp risotto. Wonderful!

    I will never know about the food here because I tried to eat here once on a Saturday night and the hostess was so rude I will never come back. It was busy and the hostess station stood empty for several minutes. After she seated the group ahead of us we were initially told 5 minutes but after she went back to check she returned and said she had no idea how long it would be and that they were very busy. When I asked if they wanted our name she said no. That was it for me.

    My husband and 3 middle school aged children tried Luna Rossa for the first time this weekend, partly due to the Yelp coupon and partly due to a friend's recommendation. To sum up, we found Luna Rossa overpriced but good, and we would eat here again. We dropped in at 6:15 without a reservation and were seated immediately, though the restaurant seemed fairly full. The tablecloths and sophisticated decor create an ambiance in line with authentic Italian restaurants, while the food is more "homey" than the California Pizza kitchen! That being said we thoroughly enjoyed our meal: Spinach and Cheese ravioli, Margherita pizza, Spaghetti with Marina and a Cesar salad.

    After wandering the empty shopping center, my boyfriend and I chose this place for dinner. The restaurant is located upstairs and apparently has been the location for various failed dining establishments. We were seated at a window table in a fairly empty area. Our waiter came by quickly and proved himself competent. Bruschetta: A last minute order by the boyfriend. He forgot that I don't eat tomatoes. At least the bread was good. Pasta Arrabiata: Yum! We requested very spicy and got our wish! Margherita Pizza: The bottom crust was a bit too thin, but overall, a solid menu item.

    Luna Rossa is spacious and bright. They have a hostess in the front and it was not busy for lunch. I was surprised to see that it was not busy for a lunch hour sice they are located in an outside mall. They have a full menu ranging from pastas to pizza to risotto to steaks. We ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and the lasagna. The alfredo was light and creamy and with the egg noodles it was actually very good. They loaded it with chicken so that was a plus too. The lasagna however reminded us of chef boyardi. It was not bad and the sauce had lots of meat inside, but it was sweet and had the flavor of chef boyardi. It was funny because my sister and I took a bite and had the exact same feeling! They also had a 20% off yelp check in so it was great they honored it. The prices are a little high for he quality. Overall, the experience was just ok. If I were in the area I would dine here again but would I go out of my way to dine here? Probably not.

    Amazing dinner! I kind of like it. But my parents love it. I got the calamari fritti (yes I know it's an appetizer, I just didn't want to eat too much) and it was delicious. Also, the salmon is delicious and goes great with the caesar salad and the penne chicken broccoli is pretty good. Go there if you want a more gourmet italian dinner.

    I recently came here for a rehearsal dinner and had a great time. We had a nice sized private room in the back which was perfect for a party of our size. The menu was set and usually when that happens I don't like half the dishes that are brought out but that was not the case. The pizza was surprisingly good (thin crust) and so were both pastas (rigatoni with meat sauce and penne with chicken and a creamy white sauce). A few of my friends and I went to the bar for drinks to bring back to the table and the bartender was very friendly and made sure our drinks were not weak at all. The wait staff was superb and brought all the dishes out in a timely fashion along with clearing them up when needed. I look forward to coming here with my family and exploring what else is on the menu.

    This place is a "throwback restaurant" to a time when Italian restaurants in America did not need to be that good. The restaurant follow suit. I will start out by saying that the waiter we had was quite friendly, almost sassy. He took a delight in putting on a show for us. I give him props. The food, however, is disappointing. I decided to get soup and salad: the minestrone soup was fresh, clean, and pretty much a purely vegetable affair. I should have stopped there. The Caprese salad was awful. The tomatoes had been stored in the refrigerator and indeed were still quite chilled when they arrived my plate. A bad sign. What chef does not know that chilling tomatoes takes the flavor out of them? This was during the summer, and I was expecting some tasty and fresh tomatoes. No such luck. The mozzarella was not good either. It seemed stale. It lacked the distinctive mozzarella flavor and the texture was off. Frankly, I could not eat more than one half of one slice of tomato with mozzarella. The waiter asked if I wanted to take the remainder of the salad home; I politely declined. Another person in my party ordered the pasta with smoked salmon. To be fair, the waiter tried to warn us... It was, in fact, awful. The salmon had such a strong, off taste it overpowered the dish. I appreciate generous portions, but there was so much pasta on the dish it was unappetizing. My kids enjoyed the pizza. Another guest enjoyed the pasta with mushrooms in white sauce. Bottom line: do not come here if you are looking for a great culinary experience. Maybe come here if you have a large family and want huge portions of just-OK Italian food, with friendly service.

    Yes, another Italian restaurant on the hill but hopefully this one sticks around for a while. They did a good job with the decor. It's lighter inside and feels very open. Acoustics aren't that good so it does get loud but I like the changes they made. Bar area is nice and big too. Food is where this place really shines. I'll just run through what we had and make a few comments for each dish. Calamari - lightly coated and flashed fried. Rings were a little chewy but the body parts were good. Came with a side of marinara. Overall good. Caprese Salad - Fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Very good and fresh tasting. Spaghetti and Clams - Basically linguine and clams with spaghetti noodles. Very mild in flavors but good. Noodles cooked perfect al dente. Lots of clams. Fettuccine with Porcini Mushrooms - A light white sauce. Again, very mild in flavors which is good. Lots of mushrooms. Pasta tasted home made. I enjoyed this dish a lot. Pizza with sausage and mushroom - Standard pizza. Nothing spectacular. Could have been more rustic. Was too perfectly round and even. I like a slight burnt/char on my pizza. I like it a little thinner and crispy but it was still good. Just not my favorite type of pizza. $15 corkage fee. Decent sized wine list with a lot of Italian Reds and Whites. Overall I really enjoyed Luna Rossa. I've been to many Italian restaurants. I really enjoy Bottege Louie, C&O, Eatalian, Valentino's and L'Opera. I'll add Luna Rossa to the list. I will definitely come back because I believe in supporting our local restaurants and this one needs to stick around longer than the previous occupants.

    So I took my second trip here tonight... Sadly this experience WASN'T as good as the first time. Now don't get me wrong, the food was tasty... I ordered Scampi Pasta with garlic white wine sauce. But the service was lacking Big Time!! And to me, service is everything! Here goes: I sat at the bar, as I did during my first visit, but this time Lisa was the bartender. I'm not sure if she's new to the restaurant industry, but she needs a course in sanitation and customer service. Sanitation: 1. I sat down, and rather than wiping down the area in front of me, she covers it with a napkin and asked me what I would like to drink?! Huh?? What?? 2. After having my wine, I asked for a glass of water, being that I was never offered one, she reaches for a straw, grabs the top of it with her fingers, and then places it inside of my glass. Seriously, that's disgusting! 3. When my food arrived, I asked for utensils, she grabbed them and laid it straight on the counter, no napkin or any thing! Customer Service: 1. Don't walk away while the customer is talking to you! This is not even customer service, just old fashion manners! 2. Offer water and inquire whether or not the customer needs anything else (i.e. wine, napkins, etc). If this was my first visit, I would probably never return! I will give this place another shot, but I'll definitely check to see who's my server before I sit down.Very disappointed!

    I have been to Italy 9 times and can honestly say there are only 2 good Italian restaurants in the South Bay, and maybe 3 or 4 in West LA/ Hollywood. Luna Rossa is definitely one of them! The owners are all real Italians, and the easiest way to tell if an Italian restaurant is genuine is the BREAD. There's is excellent and the dishes are all freshly prepared traditional italian cusine. The pasta is all fresh, the panna cotta dessert is incredible, the meats are traditionally prepared, and the appetizers also use ingredients that are difficult to obtain in the United States. I strongly recommend making a visit to Luna Rossa if you care about quality Italian food!

    A restaurant good enough for the likes of.....Flava Flav!! check out the photos on the wall near the hostess. Quiet place on a Sunday afternoon. Service was excellent. Waiter was, surprisingly, Italian! The menu seems limited. There are plenty of dishes, just wanted more variety. The beef carpaccio was outstanding. Pizzas are excellent, thin crust fired in a brick oven. Lasagna was actually very good and had a ton of flavor. Very creamy and the pasta was fresh. Lamb chops were good and served with a rosemary garlic sauce that was so good I wanted to lick the plate. And the potatoes were surprisingly good. Thought they would be filler but we ate all of them. The only disappointment was the vegetables, but, what can you say? Pricey too, but this is Rolling Hills. Not on the top of the list but if you're starving for Italian when in the hills and have deep pockets, try it out.

    I was so not expecting much, my friend took me here and was just happy to try someplace new. Well, I was blown aways and so happily surprised! We started with the sald, it is the one with roasted veggies and goat cheese, it was amazing! Then we tried the pizza, I am from the east coast and have a hard time finding more authentic pizza out here, I LOVED the pizza! I went back a day later with my hubby and it just kept getting better I had the penne with mushroom and vodka sauce, it reminded me of something I once had in Little Italy which made me very happy. I am thrilled to have this gem in PV!

    Not nearly as good as either Frascati or Mama Terano's. Tried it Sunday, 9/16 because Frascati was closed, even though they are supposed to be open on Sunday. The Good: the bread was great, the server was very nice and helpful and brought us some crunchy fried things with powdered sugar on them and two glasses of Prosecco, free, for dessert, as he probably sensed we were underwhelmed by our entrees, etc. He also recommended specific dishes when I asked; I hate it when servers say everything's good. The decor is also light and bright. My carpaccio was good. Everyone does it different, but I like it with mache lettuce, which they don't do here. The Bad: Caprese salad is one of my daughter's favorites and is very easy dish to do right-- just need nice ripe tomatoes and good mozzarella. Tomatoes and cheese were both lacking. Olive oil and balsamic vinegar were not brought though-- we had to ask for it. My veal piccata ($25) came with mixed vegetables-- no flavor and dull, and off-tasting roasted potatoes-- the sides were like airplane food, so I didn't eat them. Husband's mixed green salad was so-so as was the proscuitto pizza. The Ugly: Nothing to say here, it wasn't that bad, just not very good. Kind of Olive Gardenish, and generic, nothing special. If you're a real foodie, pass, you'll be disappointed. If you just need someplace to eat on the top of the Hill, its okay.

And what the hell is up with half the restaurant wreaking of cinnamon toilet freshener?! Can't you guys try toning it down?? Sad. Oh, extra star was for the fact that they have a full bar. At least you can drown out all the negatives with a cocktail.

    I have ate here two times now and I will sat that between the AMAZING service from the owner to the servers as well as the GREAT food, I will make this restaurant my number one choice for Italian food in the South Bay. If you want quality Italian food make sure you try Luna Rossa. The menu is diverse and depending on what you order you can eat a great meal at competitive pricing.

    Went there with a large party for a celebration. For starters, while making the reservations on the phone, the hostess came off as somewhat arrogant and snooty. I requested to have our large table of 12 put in a more private, secluded area to avoid disturbing other patrons but once we got there we were sat right in the middle of the restaurant! The restaurant has high ceilings and really nothing to absorb the noise so everything seems loud. No music in the background either which is a huge negative for an Italian restaurant. The lighting needs to be dimmer too, you feel like you're eating in a cafeteria. The food was ok, the pizza was probably the best. Good thin crust. The fried Calamari was chewy and fishy, definitely wasn't fresh. The pasta dish we ordered (Bolognese) was flavorful but the rigatoni pasta was too al dente....definitely under cooked. The worst part of our experience was the service though. I understand they're fairly new but still, a certain level of service is expected. The server routinely forgot to bring necessities to the table, forks, spoons, etc.... Got kinda annoying asking for the obvious over and over. The topper though was asking for a water refill and the server telling us they're closing! It was 9:30pm and apparently they close then but to deny a customer water after spending a good part of the evening there not to mention a good amount of money is just not acceptable. I personally won't be back but for anyone else who's interested in trying this place, I would recommend going at lunchtime.

    I found an online coupon for this place, but I wasn't entirely aware of this restaurant. Taking a chance, I went in with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. I got the bruschetta, lasagna and my friend got the risotto. They were both incredibly delicious, but this restaurant excelled in aspects other than food. The overall ambiance was warm and inviting. The service also proved to be quite impressive. The employees there are so personable and make you feel right at home. I could not believe how relaxed I felt, sitting there just chatting with my friend. Our bellies were full of exquisite food and we left with the warm satisfaction of meeting some great employees. It's one of those places I definitely plan on returning to. The people in there carry themselves in a way that makes you want to come back for more. I look forward to another delicious lunch at such a wonderful place.

    My friend ordered the Carbonara which tasted good. It was my first time trying a carbonara from anywhere and from what my friends said it was a little on the salty side. The Spaghetti was good. I dont remember the exact taste but it just tasted like a good spaghetti. The pasta was cooked well in the carb and a few under cooked noodles in the spaghetti. I forgot what the name of the dessert was but we got a peanut butter ice cream thing? haha. it was pretty good :) The drinks are good but a little weak. Had a pina colada which was very refreshing but could have used a little more rum. One of the bartenders made a special espresso drink that tasted amazing! Overall i like this place. its a little far from where i live so i dont think i would go out of my way but if i knew some friends were there i think i would stop by.

    The food is average, there are much better italian places in the surrounding area. I ordered a risotto dish that was more like mexican rice, definetly not a true risotto. The bar space and decor are great and give a nice atmosphere. The accordian player, however, ruins that. He plays there everynight of the week and gives that creepy, gypsy vibe of restaurants in italy that no one cares for. The waitress we had, did not know much about the menu and didnt seem to want to find out for us. She told us all the desserts were homemade when they are not at all.

    Mom and I dropped by for lunch. We waited 5 minutes for someone to greet us...nobody came. I walked into the empty restaurant and there was one couple eating. There was a waiter chatting with them. I interrupted their conversation and asked if they were closed. The waiter looked at me indignantly and said they were open. I told him nobody had greeted us and we had been waiting. He said he was the greeter and I should go back and wait. He followed a few seconds later. I felt as if we were intruding. He was so rude. He made us feel as if our coming in had ruined his day. We stayed for appetizers and hurried out. What a horrible experience.

    I took a risk coming here after reading the reviews as thete was a Groupon available and it is really close to my home. Boy was I wrong! The service is horrible, the food is definitely not worth the cost, our Server Juan was obmoxious. He ignored us for a good 20 minutes while helping other patrons. The almost $21 limon chicken was tough and tasteless, and the chicken broccoli pizza was soggy!!! To make matters worse, they did not honor our groupon because the employee that "scans the groupons is out sick." Really! Gets one syar because my daughter actually ate some of her cheese pizza.

    Save yourself the agony. Pass on this one! We dined at this restaurant for dinner on 3-1-14 party of 9. The restaurant was quite busy for the area. I thought this would be a good sign. The food was average at best and service was pretty bad. He took very long to respond to requests, forgot a drink order, was missing often and got 2 of our main orders wrong. He did offer to bring the correct dishes which I declined since I did not wish to wait for another 20 minutes. So, he brought them in a doggy bag for us to take home. Thanks but no thanks. If the food was not good at the restaurant, why would I take it home.

    About the most unfriendly service we have experienced. Both hostess and the server were stone faced and made us feel it was a chore to have us dine at the restaurant. My wife had mediocre raviolis and I had chicken tortellini. I tried to explain to the waiter that I wanted a sauce with no cream and due to a misunderstanding got a Vodka Cream Sauce (yuk) Will not dine here again.

    Went for lunch, had a Groupon. Seated quickly, not very crowded, ambience is kind of fancy, but people weren't real dressed up. We had: Luna Rossa Pizza - olives, zucchini, red peppers, eggplant, mushrooms & mozzarella. I really like the overall taste and the sauce. The crust needs to be cooked a little longer so it's not soggy in the middle, my son said the same about his pepperoni pizza. Big enough for 2 people. Fettucine Alfredo with Shrimp - son said it was really good, nice size shrimp and a creamy (not to cheesy) sauce. Service was quick and efficient. Overall it was OK.

    Went fo dinner. We were seated promptly. The waiter was prompt. The wine list is extensive, but overpriced. The bread was very good and warm. I ordered a salad, which was served with the wrong dressing. The food was OK, but way overpriced. The restaurant is in a big room. The noise level is unacceptable. We consider this place pretty mediocre - there are much better in the area.

    In a mall pasta and pizza a dozen entrees Luna Rossa reminds me a lot of il fornaio, but with way more pizza and pasta. We went there on a balmy Summer Friday night. The dining room has high ceilings and they had the doors open so a nice breeze was blowing through the dining room, but there was no air curtain on that door which makes that a minor health code violation. The hostess was friendly, and we were also greeted by the manager who was Italian and was very hospitable. The manager alone gets 5*. After we were sat the server came out immediately and gave us menus then asked if he could bring us anything. Just sitting down and knowing what was on the menu we said "WATER." As advertised, this Italian eatery has a lot of pastas, either with dry or fresh egg noodles. The variety is ala checca to polpets and ala vongole with everything in between. There is a whole page and a half of pastas on the menu. There is also a whole page of pizzas on the menu too which are wood fired or come from a wood fired oven running gas. In addition there are about a dozen classic Italian entrees on the menu with the typical primi like fried calamari and anti-pasti. And of course the invented by an Italian in Mexico by a guy named "Caesar" Salad. I still think it is a Mexican Salad since it was conceived in Mexico. With all semantics aside, after ordering some unique Italian varietals, they brought out our antipasto platter and calamari. The calamari was tender, but the breading fell right off as you picked it up, so the crust could not soak up the marinara dip, leaving us with naked calamari rings. The antipasto platter, well, the fact that you can now buy artisan Italian sausages at the super market should clue into the chef at this place to step up his game. The antipasto platter was something your would get served in New Jersey like in the 70s. Very disappointing. Our entrees come out and I ordered the lamb chops medium rare. It looked very Tuscan, or what I would think Tuscan would look like based on travel shows and magazines, with a side of oven roasted potatoes and veg. The lamb chops were cooked a tad over medium rare but judging by the temperature of it they let it rest before sending it out. The chops were very tender and juicy and was served with a rosemary and brown butter wine sauce. Very Tuscan, or at least.... We finished the meal with Italian coffees and aperitifs as they were happy to warm my Sambuca. As mentioned I would give the manager and host 5*, and the service and food 3*. for a 3.5* review. One thing that I didn't like was the looks we got from the snooty clientele. They looked at us with that "who are these peasants," stare. Tsk tsk, so Nouveau riche.

    PERFECTLY ok. DELIRIOUSLY fine. AWARD-WINNINGLY meh. The free bread was... there. It would have been better if either of us were toasted. The bruschetta (pronounced broosketta- who knew?) was awesome- toasted bread, flavorful, fresh. The minestrone was bland, contained no pasta, and seemed to be full of the butt end of veggies. The rigatoni bolognese was perfectly cooked, but bland and the sauce was more meaty-ocre than meaty.

    Came here for a graduation dinner party and it is very nig and spacious. We got our own private room and the waitors were attentive and helpful. We got a few appetizers and I ended up getting the lamb chops. It was ok. I tried the risotto and this was delicious! If I were to come again, I would get the risotto. My cousin got the chickan marsala and he said he was indifferent about it.

    If I could give half stars I would probably actually give Luna Rossa three and a half stars. I enjoyed my meal here and don't really have any complaints about the service or food (apart from the fact that they didn't honor the Yelp check in discount on Christmas Eve). I'm not giving more than three stars just because the price to value ratio for this restaurant is not compelling. I liked the spinach and ricotta ravioli I ordered. It was rich and creamy if you like that type of thing. The price for the dish (salad not included) just is a little on the high side for me, as I have gotten better prices on comparable meals elsewhere. There wasn't anything else really in the dining experience to compensate for this. One thing I did like was the olive paste that they serve with the bread. The bread served at the beginning of the meal was also good quality and fresh and hot. We had a Cannoli for dessert, which was quite good. They also gave us complimentary lemon shots (not sure exactly what they were) at the end of the meal, which was a really nice touch. They serve some type of deep fried bread style sweets at the end, which were ok but had a little too much of the deep fried taste to my liking. I would be glad to try this restaurant again, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

    Tonight's dinner was rock solid. Alisa was our server and was so sweet and attentive. We will make a point to go back to eat here and request her service for sure. It's so nice to have a restaurant like this just minutes from our home with good food, full drinks and great staff.

    I called them on the phone w a very last minute request; need five large pepperoni pizzas in 15 mins & a table ready for 12. It was my son's bday party for lunch & a movie. These guys are amazing! All the pizzas were ready w a great table in the back. It's hard to get great service despite this never ending recession, but the staff at Luna Rossa are amazing. Love the food too!

    Honestly, I'm struggling between 2-stars and 3-stars with this place. It's trying really hard to be some fancy, upscale eatery but the reality is that it's at the PV Mall and the food is just average at best. I went here after doing some shopping and walked in feeling super under-dressed based on the decor and hostess but when I saw that the other patrons were wearing shorts and t-shirts as well, I felt much better. Our server (wish I could remember his name) was not the friendliest or engaging waiter and did little to welcome us and walk us through the menu. If I were doing the rating on his performance alone, it'd be a 1-star review for sure. After mulling it over a bit, we ordered a Caesar Salad and Pepperoni Pizza to share and the food came out relatively quick. The salad was very average, certainly nothing to brag about and as I type this review, I'm really struggling to recall anything noteworthy about it. It was just "Meh." As far the pizza, it was a decent thin crust pie, baked the way I like it and with ample toppings. I was not a huge fan of the sauce, a little sweet for my taste but after pouring on some crushed red pepper (that was brought to me a bowl?) it finally had the "kick" I was hoping for. At the end of the day, I would rate the service a 1.0, the Caesar Salad a (generous) 2.5 and the Pepperoni Pizza a 3.0 for an overall rating of 2.1666666666667.
